FRANKLIN GROVE – Linda Marie Garner, 64, of Franklin Grove, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon, from complications of multiple myeloma. She was surrounded by family. She was a bookkeeper and later the manager for the Ashton Co-op. She then worked for the Jack Swanson and Sauk Valley insurance agencies.

Linda was born March 4, 1948, at KSB Hospital, the eldest daughter of Dale Calvin and Alice Marie (Otto) Bowers. She was raised on the family farm between Ashton and Franklin Grove, and graduated from Ashton High School in 1966. She married Kenneth Neal Garner of Arbyrd, Mo. on Aug. 14, 1966, at the Church of the Brethren in Dixon. She enjoyed traveling, especially the western U.S.; gardening; reading; “Sunday” drives any day of the week; and most of all, being grandma.

Survivors include her son, Michael K. Garner of Crete; daughter, Karen M. (Mike) Sondgeroth of Franklin Grove; grandchildren, Katherine M. and Natalie H. Sondgeroth of Franklin Grove, and Sydney I. and Alyssa M. Garner (and their mother, Sara) of Wheaton; her mother, and sisters, Patricia C. (Guy) Ball and Lou Ann (Tom) Balch, all of Ashton; nieces and nephews, Christina (Jeremiah) Aeschleman, Rebecca Berkeley, Stephanie (Justin) Munroe, Jennifer (Matthew) Magnafici, Brett Balch, and Ashley Balch; her former husband; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and many loving friends.   

She was preceded in death by her father in December 1999; and great-nephew, William D. Aeschleman in November 1999. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, with the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Church of the Brethren in Dixon, with the Rev. Marty Creager, pastor, officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Ashton Cemetery.

Linda wished to have memorials made to the Dixon Church of the Brethren and, to pass along her love of reading, the Ashton-Franklin Center Elementary School Library.
