STERLING – A Kroger clerk was given a city citation Monday for selling cigarettes to a minor, Sterling Police said in a news release.

The department sent a 16-year-old into 20 stores to try to buy cigarettes as part of the tobacco compliance checks it does three times a year.

Christina Garcia, 19, of Sterling, was cited, Sgt. Steve Hubbard said. The 19 other stores were in compliance.
