STERLING – Donald Wayne Stralow, 83, of Sterling, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Coventry Living Center in Sterling. He was employed by Penberthy Manufacturing for 28 years as a mold maker, retiring in 1992.

Donald was born March 29, 1929, in Sterling, the son of Henry and Alice (Hayen) Stralow. He married Marion A. Schultz on April 6, 1956, in Sterling. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2008. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. 

Donald volunteered at Christ Lutheran School and at Christ Lutheran School Thrift Shop in Rock Falls for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, drag racing, and listening to country and western and light classical music. Donald also liked to tinker around with his 1979 El Camino. He loved helping people in need. Donald was a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling.  

Survivors include his two close friends, Kenneth (Sharon D.) Kokott and Bob (Joan R.) Richards, both of Sterling.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Patrick Pinion of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

A memorial has been established to Christ Lutheran School.
