STERLING – The city is in the process of processing a liquor license for Fiesta Cancun, Sterling City Clerk Marie Rombouts said Tuesday.
The city has not yet issued an occupancy permit for the restaurant at 3203 E. Lincolnway, Rombouts said.
Co-owner Mario Lopez said last week that the opening date depends on the receipt of the liquor license.
New Life Lutheran to open March 16
STERLING – New Life Lutheran church’s 500 members soon will be worshipping in their new building at 702 W. Lynn Boulevard.
The church is holding an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 16. A dedication celebration service will be held at 3 p.m. March 17.
The church broke ground on the new site in August 2011, said the Rev. Bill Sullivan, New Life’s lead pastor.
Members did about half of the work on the new building. “It’s very satisfying,” Sullivan said.
Their current building at Lynn and Lincolnway has about 5,000 square feet; the new spot will have about 30,000 square feet, he said.
“We’re just very excited about being able to serve the people of the Sauk Valley from our new ministry center,” he said.

DIXON — KSB Hospital donated five computers to the Lee County Historical Society, President Pat Gorman said.
The computers could be utilized in the historical society’s reorganization of its second floor for visitors to view photographs and documents, Gorman said.
“They’ll be needed up there,” Gorman said. “We couldn’t be happier for the donation. The idea of our society is to preserve history for the community.”
