DIXON – Warren A. Baker Jr., 63, of Dixon, was ushered into heaven Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon. Warren spent many years in the agricultural business as a warehouse manager, the last 13 years being the most fulfilling at Helena Chemical Co. in Princeton.
Warren was born Aug. 26, 1949, in Rochelle, the wonderful son of Warren A. Sr. and Norma L. (McCluney) Baker. He graduated in 1967 from Dixon High School. Warren married Randy L. Schnake on June 7, 1969, in Dixon. Warren was a veteran of the Army, having served in Korea as a tank commander from 1969, completing service with honors in 1971. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who was loved, respected, and adored by his family and a multitude of friends.
Warren’s greatest pleasures included golf, attending church, cooking, reading, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. He was a man of great faith, attending church at Faith Center in Rockford where he was a greeter and powerful advocate for Christ. He had a God-given gift for giving and the heart of a peacemaker, and will be sorely missed by all.
Survivors include his wife and one daughter, Sunnie L. (Matt) Payne, both of Dixon; one brother, Stephen (Gail) Baker of Princeton; one sister, Sue (William “Willis”) Baker-Klein of Dixon; five grandchildren, London Baker, Josh Payne, Morgan Askegaard, Kenzie Payne, and Bayli Baker-Dunlap; three nephews, Matt Baker, Michael Baker, and Mark Baker; three nieces, Amber (Todd) Wells, Ciara Loescher, and Brittany Klein; one brother-in-law, Gary (Diane) Schnake; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Crossroads Community Church in Polo. The memorial service and celebration of Warren’s amazing life will follow at noon at the church, with Apostle Lyon officiating. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
