Dr. W.E. Cherry

STERLING – Dr. W.E. Cherry, D.D.S., 77, of Sterling, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Sterling Pavilion.

He was born July 11, 1935, in Augusta, Mont., the son of Wesley and Florence (Mullaney) Cherry. He married Mary Susan Hey on Dec. 29, 1957, in Sterling. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Dr. Cherry received his undergraduate degree from Montana State University and graduated from Northwestern University, receiving his D.D.S. degree. He practiced dentistry from 1957 until his retirement in 2003. Dr. Cherry was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Sterling and enjoyed auctioneering, hunting, backpacking, camping and being outdoors. He had a love for music, including playing his bass guitar. Dr. Cherry was a member of the American Dental Association.

His survivors include his wife, Susan of Sterling; his daughters, Charlene (Dan) Dubois of Allendale, Mich., and Patricia Ebbers of Chicago; three sons, Charles (Mary) Cherry of Elburn, Dan (Cam) Cherry of Great Falls, Mont., and Doug (Becky) Cherry of New Lenox; a sister, Fern Vaughn of Quesnel, B.C.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church in Sterling. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bryan Bice officiating. 

A memorial has been established at Faith Baptist Church or Serenity Hospice. 

McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls is handling arrangements.
