23-year-old hit by train, dies
Police looking for witnesses; foul play not suspected
STERLING – Funeral services will be held Tuesday for a 23-year-old Sterling man hit and killed by a train around 2:42 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Avenue B.
Foul play is not suspected in the death of Benito Ramirez Marquez, but police are asking anyone who saw him that night or has any information to call them at 815-632-6640 so they can piece together a timeline.
Toxicology results are pending.
According to his obituary on page A4, Ramirez Marquez, a Sterling High School graduate, is survived by his mother and stepfather, Raquel and Severino Lagunas, his sister, Jacqueline Moreno, his brothers, Javier Ramirez Marquez, Jesus Lagunas and Felipe Lagunas, and his grandmother, Carmen Ramirez, all of Sterling.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. McDonald Funeral Homes is handling arrangements.
