Reiley makes state finals in shootout

No one hit more 3-pointers than Cassie Reiley on Thursday evening during the 3-point showdown preliminaries at Redbird Arena in Normal.

The Prophetstown senior connected 11 times in the Class 1A competition. Her sophomore teammate, Heather Strike, hit seven, two shy of making the final round, which takes place 1:30 this afternoon.

In 2A, Morrison junior Chelsea Eads hit six triples, missing the cut by two.

Bucks’ Redick deal highlights quiet day

J.J. Redick was traded by the Orlando Magic to the Milwaukee Bucks, just minutes before the trade deadline expired, the highest-profile deal on an otherwise quiet day.

The trade hasn’t been made official yet. But when it’s processed by NBA officials, Redick, point guard Ish Smith and forward Gustavo Ayón will go to the Bucks in exchange for forward Tobias Harris, shooting guard Doron Lamb and point guard Beno Udrih.

Hossa OK; Seabrook, Crawford practice

Winger Marian Hossa, defenseman Brent Seabrook and goaltender Corey Crawford all practiced for the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

Hossa was injured during Tuesday night’s 4-3 shootout victory over the Canucks on a hit to the back of the head from Vancouver’s Jannik Hansen that drew a one-game suspension.

Crawford has not played since taking a knee to the head Feb. 12. He has been cleared to play, but Ray Emery will get the start against the Sharks tonight.

Seabrook missed one game after taking a puck to the groin area Sunday, but coach Joel Quenneville said the veteran will play against the Sharks.

Groh named Bears wide receivers coach

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman completed his coaching staff, hiring Mike Groh as his wide receivers coach.

Groh, 41, served as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama this past season.

Police: Brent drove at least 110 mph

Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent was driving at least 110 mph at the time of the December car crash that killed teammate Jerry Brown, according to police reports.

The report claimed that Brent was driving at a minimum of 110 mph on Dec. 8 and could have gone as fast as 134 mph down Highway 114.
