ROCKFORD (AP) – A northern Illinois woman has pleaded guilty to leaving an infant to freeze to death on a rural roadside.

Katie Stockton of Rockton reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on Thursday in the 2004 death of the infant known as Baby Crystal. Police have said they have evidence Stockton was the infant's mother. Stockton was to go to trial Monday for first-degree murder. Her sentencing is set for April 15. She faces up to 60 years in prison.

Remaining counts against Stockton were dismissed. Police originally questioned Stockton after a newborn in a plastic bag was discovered frozen along a dead-end road near her parents' home.

The bodies of two other babies were found in the trunk of Stockton's impounded car in 2010. She hasn't been charged in those cases.
