On the docket: Pretrial conference.

DAMAGE TO PROPERTY/TRESPASSING CASE: Erik J. Morales, 26, of Sterling; charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to a residence. Police say Morales, who was intoxicated, mistakenly broke into a Sterling home in the 100 block of East Eighth Street on Dec. 4, 2011, and was confronted by the homeowner. 

On the docket: Pretrial conference.

RAPE/HOME INVASION CASE: David J. Reese, 27, of Rock Falls; charged with home invasion, armed robbery, and aggravated criminal sexual assault. Police say Reese pushed his way into a Rock Falls woman’s home on May 31 and demanded money before raping her. 

On the docket: Pretrial conference.

BURGLARY CASE: Stephen M. Sato, 33, and Julie Korotkov, 37, both of Chicago; each charged with two counts of burglary. Police say they burglarized Dollar General stores in Fulton and Morrison in December and January. 

On the docket: Pretrial conference for both.

DUI/ECSTASY CASE: Penny J. Schmidt, 24, of Rock Falls; charged with DUI, possession of Ecstasy, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, misdemeanor resisting a peace officer, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving while her license was suspended, and having no insurance.

Police say Schmidt was high on Ecstasy when she drove her car into four mailboxes in Rock Falls on March 20. She was arrested after a brief foot chase, police say.

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE: Lawrence C. Verdick Jr., 58, of Sterling; charged with 38 counts of aggravated child pornography. A search of his home computer, seized in April, turned up many sexually explicit images of children younger than 12, according to Whiteside County sheriff’s deputies.

On the docket: Pretrial conference.  

SHOOTING CASE: Octavius L. Zackery, 35, of Sterling; charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, a misdemeanor. 

Police say Zackery shot a 29-year-old Sterling man in the hip during an argument on Nov. 17.

Thursday

THEFT CASE: Troy J. Morgan, 31, of Sterling; charged with six counts of felony theft and two counts of misdemeanor theft. Police say a search of his home in January turned up numerous stolen scrap items.
