THEFT CASE: Michelle A. Kemp, 49, of Dixon; charged with forgery and theft. Kemp, a former manager for a now-closed real estate office, wrote nearly $50,000 in checks by forging the name of the office owner.

MURDER CASE: Matthew W. Welling, 32, of Amboy; charged with first-degree murder and two counts of home invasion. Police say Welling pushed his way into the home of Delmar Leroy Daniels, 79, and killed him during a struggle.
On the docket: Hearing on motions to toss his confession and evidence collected at the scene.
OGLE COUNTY
Thursday
THEFT CASE: Robert J. Frieberg, 42, of Emerson, west of Sterling; charged with burglary. Deputies say he burglarized several Ogle County farms, taking tools and equipment, in July.

WHITESIDE COUNTY
Wednesday
ATTEMPTED MURDER/DRUG CASE and DRUG CASE: Dontee L. Brown, 31, of Peoria; charged with attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance, and aggravated fleeing. Police say Brown tried to run over an officer who was trying to arrest him and his passenger, Allison V. Dragojevich, 18, also of Peoria, after a cocaine deal in Rock Falls on Aug. 22. She is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of delivery of a controlled substance.
Dragojevich was sentenced to 4 years of probation in January after pleading guilty to delivery of a controlled substance.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY CASE: Darnell A. Clark, 25, of Chicago; charged with residential burglary and obstructing justice. Police say Clark tried to break into a house in the Indian Ridge subdivision in Sterling on April 13, 2011.

BATTERY TO A CHILD CASE: Marcus J. Dewey, 20, of Franklin Grove; charged with aggravated battery to a child. Police say Dewey severely injured a boy younger than 13 on Oct. 16.

SEX ASSAULT CASE: Richard M. Fonder, 26, of Sterling; charged with criminal sexual assault. A 20-year-old woman told police on Nov. 25 that Fonder assaulted her at a party.

IDENTITY THEFT CASE: Magan J. Fuller, 39, of Sterling; charged with aggravated identity theft. Police say Fuller used personal information from a man older than 60 to get utility services in August 2011.

THEFT CASE: Terry G. Gibbs, 35, of Rock Falls, and Steven K. Argraves, 40, of Sterling; charged with burglary. Gibbs also is charged with theft. Police say the two stole scrap metal from a rural Sterling business on Jan. 22 and sold it for cash.

TRESPASS TO A RESIDENCE CASE: Dealon J. Gonzales, 33, of Rock Falls; charged with criminal trespass to a residence and misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property and theft of less than $500.
Police say Gonzales kicked his way into a Sterling home Sept. 16 and stole a cellphone and debit card.

SEX ABUSE CASE: Brent A. Grove, 28, of Sterling; charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Police say Grove sexually abused two children younger than 13 in May and June.

FORGERY CASE: Iowans Jimmie D. Martin, 40, of Bettendorf, and Jeffrey K. Morris, 46, of Davenport; charged with six counts each of burglary and forgery; and co-defendant Vauncille M. Ruby, 46, of Davenport, charged with five counts each of burglary and forgery and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police say the three passed counterfeit $20 bills at various stores in Sterling in January.

SHAKEN BABY CASE: Karyn McCallister, 41, of Sterling; charged with aggravated battery of a child and reckless conduct. Police say McCallister, who ran an unlicensed day care center in her home, shook a 4-month-old girl in February 2009, causing severe head injuries.

LEAVING THE SCENE CASE: Michael R. Modler, 54, of Sterling; charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a felony, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and improper passing on the shoulder of the roadway.
Police say Modler crashed his motorcycle on West Lincolnway at Anne Street in Galt on March 18 and left before police arrived. He left behind his passenger, girlfriend Charlotte Henson of Sterling, who was thrown and seriously injured, police said.

DAMAGE TO PROPERTY/TRESPASSING CASE: Erik J. Morales, 26, of Sterling; charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to a residence. Police say Morales, who was intoxicated, mistakenly broke into a Sterling home in the 100 block of East Eighth Street on Dec. 4, 2011, and was confronted by the homeowner.

RAPE/HOME INVASION CASE: David J. Reese, 27, of Rock Falls; charged with home invasion, armed robbery, and aggravated criminal sexual assault. Police say Reese pushed his way into a Rock Falls woman’s home on May 31 and demanded money before raping her.

BURGLARY CASE: Stephen M. Sato, 33, and Julie Korotkov, 37, both of Chicago; each charged with two counts of burglary. Police say they burglarized Dollar General stores in Fulton and Morrison in December and January.

DUI/ECSTASY CASE: Penny J. Schmidt, 24, of Rock Falls; charged with DUI, possession of Ecstasy, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, misdemeanor resisting a peace officer, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving while her license was suspended, and having no insurance.
Police say Schmidt was high on Ecstasy when she drove her car into four mailboxes in Rock Falls on March 20. She was arrested after a brief foot chase, police say.

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE: Lawrence C. Verdick Jr., 58, of Sterling; charged with 38 counts of aggravated child pornography. A search of his home computer, seized in April, turned up many sexually explicit images of children younger than 12, according to Whiteside County sheriff’s deputies.

SHOOTING CASE: Octavius L. Zackery, 35, of Sterling; charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, a misdemeanor.
Police say Zackery shot a 29-year-old Sterling man in the hip during an argument on Nov. 17.

THEFT CASE: Troy J. Morgan, 31, of Sterling; charged with six counts of felony theft and two counts of misdemeanor theft. Police say a search of his home in January turned up numerous stolen scrap items.
