STERLING – Police say a Sterling man had nearly $8,000 worth of marijuana in his home, where he was growing the plants.

Leslie B. Gibson, 46, is charged with felony possession of more than 500 grams of marijuana; and production of fewer than five plants and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

Gibson had 546 grams worth $7,800, police said in a release Thursday.

Acting on a tip, police conducted the “knock and talk” June 26 at Gibson’s home in the 1500 block of Seventh Avenue, smelled marijuana and got permission to enter the home, where the grow was found, the release said.

Gibson turned himself in Thursday after the state crime lab confirmed the plants were marijuana, the release said.

He has a March 25 court date.
