Witzleb: ‘We need to listen to sheriff’
Members still at odds over need for $45,000 study
DIXON – Lee County Board member Greg Witzleb said Tuesday that he questions the need for a study on whether Sheriff John Varga needs two more deputies.
The cost of the study, estimated to be about $45,000, is “a lot of money,” Witzleb said.
Varga for months has been asking to hire two more deputies, which would bring the total to 15. That’s how many he had 4 years ago, until the board stopped funding two of the positions.
