Ring in the ‘new year’ at Champs

Published: Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

STERLING – It may not be such a new year anymore, but it’s Joe Waldschmidt’s first party of 2013, so he’s calling it Joe’s New Year Party.

The benefit for the Sauk Valley Food Bank begins at 2 p.m. March 10 at Champs Sports Bar and Grill, 216 Locust St. Admission is a nonperishable food item.

There will be live music, a 50/50 drawing and door prizes, along with pork sandwiches, potato salad and veggies.

For 4 years now, Waldschmidt has thrown a New Year’s party, usually the Sunday before the Super Bowl. That didn’t happen this year, so he’s having it in March.

“It’s not about me, it’s about having a good time – and we’re trying to get people fed, too,” the Sterling man said.

Call Champs, 815-626-6003, or find the bar on Facebook for more information.
