Riverfront update coming in Sterling

Last summer, the city hired Gary W. Anderson Architects of Rockford to determine the fate of existing buildings and the potential for new development on the riverfront.

Sterling City Manager Scott Shumard told City Council members Tuesday night that the firm will present the results of its study at a March council meeting.

The firm also has put together proposals for how to begin funding the projects, he said.

Shumard also told council members that asbestos abatement at the downtown Sterling Theater should be done in about a week and a half.

The Theater Management Group plans to open the renovated theater in May.

Also Tuesday night, the council learned that two more Neighborhood Stabilization Program homes sold, one at 410 W. Ninth St. for $65,000 and the other at 1410 E. 14th St. for $75,000.
