STERLING – Leta R. Thome Cummings, 93, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

She was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Ohiowa, Neb., the daughter of Harry and Effie (Andrew) Johnson. She was married to Ralph Thome in 1942, until his death in 1986. She married Edmund Cummings in 1997, and he died in 2001.

During World War II, she served as a WAVE in the Navy, stationed at Pensacola, Fla.. In 2012, she was greatly honored to go to Washington, D.C., on the Honor Flight. Leta was a member of Rock Falls United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Rock Falls American Legion Post 902, and a member of Sterling Women of the Moose and Sterling-Rock Falls Ladies of the Elks.
