Dixon school board meets today, Wednesday

Teacher contract negotiations, 1-cent sales tax among agenda items

DIXON – The School Board will meet twice this week.

The board will hold a special meeting at 7 tonight at the district’s administration office, 1335 Franklin Grove Road. The board will take public comment and then meet in closed session to discuss teacher contract negotiations. No action will be taken.

Teachers have been working without a contract since August, and could call a strike Feb. 26. The board is scheduled to meet for a negotiating session with the Dixon Education Association on Monday.

Both sides’ last offers can be found at online.

The school board also will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Washington Elementary School gym, 703 E. Morgan St.

Information items on the agenda include the 1-cent sales tax, the Lee/Ogle Regional Office of Education in Grand Detour lease, 5Essentials Survey and results of the board planning session.

The board will vote on the 2013-2014 calendar, a health/life safety amendment for Reagan Middle School, the district improvement plan and interscholastic activities.

Go to or call the district administration office, 815-284-7722, for agendas for both meetings.

The teachers union, the Dixon Education Association, will hold two more question-and-answer sessions for the public at Books on First, 202 W. First St.
