Roundup: Falcons take third at state tournament

Riley sparks Sauk men to third home win in 5 days

The Faith Christian Falcons finished the ACSI State Tournament with a win Saturday, downing Kankakee Trinity 62-58 in the third-place game in Kankakee.

Isaac Weber had another monster game, finishing with 20 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks to lead the Falcons (18-11). Adam Dettman added 17 points, Aaron Claride scored 10, and Blake Hudson chipped in five points, eight boards and six assists.

Faith held Trinity star Chris Green, coming off games of 58 and 41 points in the state tournament, to 24 points, two shy of 1,000 on the season.

Faith accepted an invitation to a national tournament, which will take place March 6-9 in Dayton, Tenn., and close the Falcons’ season.

Men’s basketball

Sauk Valley 71, Kankakee 61: Jalen Riley’s 33 points and six rebounds propelled the Skyhawks to their third home win in 5 days.

Daven Ottley added 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks for Sauk (18-10), which led 27-23 at halftime. Scott Scholl and Cody Behrens had six points and six rebounds each, and Jalen Jones chipped in six points, four boards and a block.

The Skyhawks have one more Arrowhead Conference game left, at Highland on Tuesday. Sauk sits at 7-4 in the conference, which Highland has already clinched.

Women’s basketball

Kankakee 64, Sauk Valley 47: The Skyhawks were outscored 38-18 in the second half of a nonconference game at home.

Holly Nicklaus hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, eight assists, two steals and two blocks for Sauk (13-12).

Tonishay Risby scored a game-high 18 points for Kankakee (13-13).
