Man hurt when car hits semi near Amboy

Suburban man sent to hospital

AMBOY – A man was sent to a Rockford hospital after his car collided Thursday with a semitrailer, authorities said.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., Brandon Acker, 23, of Villa Park, a Chicago suburb, was driving west on U.S. Route 30 near Amboy when his car collided with a Dohm Transport semitrailer driven by Jeff Crowe, 48, of Prophetstown, according to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

Acker was taken by helicopter to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. A hospital spokeswoman said she had no information on Acker.

The semitrailer hit the driver’s side of the car at U.S. Route 30 and Franklin Road. The car came to rest in the south ditch, and the semitrailer went into a field at the northwest corner of the intersection, the release says.

The preliminary investigation found that Acker made a sudden U-turn in front of the semitrailer, according to the release.

Crowe, who was not hurt, was returning to Rock Falls from Bridgeview, a Chicago suburb. Neither man had passengers.

The Sheriff’s Department said its investigation continues.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
