MANLIUS – During a 3-week unit in January, the Spanish 4 students at Bureau Valley High School studied Spanish-speaking artists.

Among those attracting the students’ attention were Pablo Picasso of Spain, Diego Rivera of Mexico, Xul Solar of Argentina, and José Campeche of Puerto Rico.

Tina Eller’s students researched their chosen subjects, wrote a composition in Spanish, gave a visual presentation, spoke only in Spanish, and completed an interview while pretending to be their artist at a museum.

They also replicated a work of art by their famous artist by painting in watercolors, acrylics, or pastels; sketching with pencil; snapping a photograph; or sculpting with clay.

Sheila Heath, high school art teacher, helped the students.
