ROCK FALLS – Bernard E. “Bernie” Bruder, 88, formerly of Sterling, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. He was a millwright for Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., retiring in 1983.

Bernie was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Prophetstown, the son of Henry and Rita (Sharp) Bruder. He married Jeannine Seeley on Jan. 18, 1946, in Rockford. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1995. Bernie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sterling. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his dog “Bucket,” and riding in the golf cart. Bernie also enjoyed antiques.

Survivors include one son, Rick (Carey) Bruder of Chadwick; one granddaughter, Lindsey (Dane) Petersen of Edgerton, Wis.; and two great-grandchildren, Chase and Eliza Jane Petersen.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Ila Mae Bartlett; and three brothers, Burdette, Clyde, and Wayne Bruder.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Judd, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church.
