DIXON – Shirley Mae Ogburn, 83, of Dixon, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Amboy Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was a school bus aide for Illinois Central for 22 years, before retiring in 2013.

Shirley was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of John and Margaret (Schwebel) Vale. She married Everett Dean Ogburn on Dec. 27, 1947, and they enjoyed 59 years together. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 2006. Shirley enjoyed sewing, embroidering, quilting, gardening, and attending family functions. She took great joy in helping the children she worked with.

Survivors include four sons, Clarence (Diana) Ogburn of Nachusa, Everett (Rhezza) Ogburn of Knippa, Texas, Randall (Beverly) Ogburn of New Milford, and Richard (Dody) Ogburn of Morrison; one daughter, Karen Ogburn of Dixon; one brother, Dr. William (Chris) VanFossen of Birmingham, Ala.; her son-in-law, Gary Dimmig of Dixon; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Lynn Dimmig; and one sister, Gloria Wilstead.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor of Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls, officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.

Memorials have been established to VITAS Hospice and Amboy Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
