OWATONNA, Minn. – Janella Sue Sanburn (neé Charlson) of Owatonna, formerly of Humboldt, Iowa, went home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, after a courageous 5-plus-year-long battle with cancer.
Janella was born Feb. 26, 1960, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the youngest of eight children to Melbourne and Naomi (Trotter) Charlson.
She grew up in Humboldt, where she graduated in 1978, and later from Iowa Central Community College. Janella and Brian Sanburn were married Dec. 21, 1985, in Sterling. In 1993, the couple moved back to Owatonna.
Janella Sanburn is survived by her husband of 27 years, Brian; four children, Josiah, Caleb, Benjamin, and Jared; mother, Naomi Hill of Dakota City, Iowa; sisters, Janine Witte and Janet (Mike) Craig, both of Fort Dodge, and Joyce (Terry) Nerhus of Badger, Iowa; brothers, Doug (SuJean) Charlson of Caliente, Nev., Dorian (Pam) Charlson of Des Moines, Iowa, Daryl (Kelly) Charlson of Ankeny, Iowa, and Dennis Charlson of Humboldt; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
Janella was preceded in death by her father, Melbourne Charlson; and her stepfather, Alva D. Hill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Friday at Grace Baptist Church in Owatonna.
The family asks that in lieu of gifts, donations be made to the Gerson Institute (nonprofit organization in San Diego, dedicated to providing education and training in the Gerson Therapy, an alternative, non-toxic treatment for cancer and other chronic degenerative diseases).
