Forum set on role of money in U.S. politics
A community forum titled "Democracy is not for sale" will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at North Suburban Library District, 6340 N. Second St., Loves Park. The forum, free and open to the public, will focus on the Citizens United Supreme Court decision and the role of money in politics.
The event is hosted by the Progressive Democrats of America Northern Illinois, a chapter of PDA Illinois (PDAIllinois.org), and Occupy Rockford (OccupyRockford.org), out of concern about big money’s domination of politics and policymaking.
PDA members recognize that spending by special interest groups to influence policy has gotten much worse in recent years, and U.S. Supreme Court decisions have not only stood in the way of common-sense reforms but also have actually knocked down many of the remaining safeguards against large-scale corruption.
