Local students win, advance to competition

STERLING – The Sterling High School speech team placed sixth out of 26 teams Feb. 9 at the Illinois High School Association Sectional for Individual Events (Speech) held at the school.

Four SHS students advanced in three events to the state finals. which started Friday and continus today in Peoria. Those students are Hannah Matheney, first place in poetry; Zachary Woessner, second place in radio speaking, and Hunter Wolfe and Clarissa Worcester. third place in humorous duet acting.

Matheney also took fourth place in oratorical declamation, and Woessner took fifth place in impromptu speaking. They qualified for the final round, but did not advance to state in those events.
