DIXON – A Lee County grand jury Friday indicted Brian C. Sigler on a single charge of first-degree murder in the strangulation of his wife in the couple’s Dixon home last month.
According to the indictment, Sigler “knowingly strangled Yolanda M. Sigler, knowing that such act created a strong probability of death.”
The grand jury, which meets in secret, hears the state’s evidence and returns a bill of indictment if it determines the case is strong enough to obtain a conviction. Grand jurors do not decide a defendant’s guilt.
Sigler, 34, has not yet entered a plea. He will have a status hearing next Friday.
He remains in the Lee County Jail on a $2 million bond.
According to court documents, Sigler choked Yolanda Sigler, also 34, in their home at 230 Lincolnway on Jan. 12 before stabbing himself in the neck and abdomen with a knife.
Police found Sigler bloodied in a bathtub. A knife was at his feet, according to documents.
Yolanda Sigler’s body was found in the living room. When officers asked Sigler where his wife was, he admitted that he had killed her and then cut himself, according to court documents.
