New jobs coming to the area?

DIXON – Mayor Jim Burke still is optimistic about bringing in a potential new industry to the community. He told Sauk Valley Media at the beginning of January that it was his No. 1 goal this new year.

He has been in talks with a company but will say only that a deal that could bring several jobs to the area still is in the works.

“I’m hoping to hear more this month,” Burke said.

The store at 350 Washington St. that opened July 1, 2011, closed in early January, said Larry DeNeve, acting executive director of Prophetstown Main Street.

Owners Dennis and Margaret Cook bought a home in Branson, Mo., where they will spend their summers, DeNeve said. They decided to close the shop because they will not be able to tend to it year round, he said.
