Author to speak for Black History Month

DIXON – Author and historian Barry Bradford, leader of the team that helped reopen the "Mississippi Burning" case, will speak from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sauk Valley Community College's Mathis Theatre.
Bradford, a master storyteller, uses humor, history and personal experience to encourage individuals to be innovative, take chances and change the world, Sauk said in a news release announcing his presentation for Black History Month.
He will tell his story of bringing the murderer in the famed 1964 civil rights case to justice, and of his leadership in the movement to convince the state of Mississippi to clear the name of civil rights martyr Clyde Kennard.
Bradford has won several awards, including U.S. Presidential Award for Public Service, Justice for All National Award and National Teacher of the Year.
