Whiteside County bee scheduled for March 4

MORRISON – The annual Whiteside County Regional Spelling Bee will be held at 6 p.m. March 4 at Morrison Junior High School, 305 E. Winfield St.

Twenty-four fifth- through eighth-graders will compete for the regional championship.

The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to National Harbor, Md., to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the end of May.

The winner also will receive Webster’s Third New International Dictionary and its Addenda Section; the Samuel Louis Sugarman Award, which is a $100 U.S. savings bond; and a 1-year online subscription to Encyclopedia Brittanica.

The second-place winner will receive Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, a $20 gift certificate to Amazon.com and a 1-year online subscription to Encyclopedia Brittanica.

The third-place winner will receive Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, a $20 gift certificate to Amazon.com and a 1-year online subscription to Encyclopedia Brittanica. The fourth-place winner will receive Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary and a $10 gift certificate to Amazon.com.
