PEORIA – Francis N. Breed, 77, of Peoria, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He retired from lllinois Bell, where he was employed as a foreman and supervisor.

Francis was born Oct. 31, 1935, in Sterling, to Edgar and Edna (Thompson) Breed. He served in the Army. Frances married Alice Wagenknecht on Sept. 30, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sterling. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 1992.

Survivors include one daughter, Sheri Hammitt of Peoria; one son, Brian (Frannie) Breed of Peoria, Ariz.; one brother, Dale (Marion) Breed of Sterling; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his significant other, Darlene Zachman of Moline.

He also was preceded in death by one child in infancy; and two brothers, Royal and Tracy Breed.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral at noon, Saturday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with the Rev. Stephen Barnes, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

A memorial has been established.
