DIXON – A Dixon man is in custody and charges are pending against two teenagers accused of stealing scrap around rural Lee County.

Andrew S. Daniels, 20, turned himself in to Lee County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday. He was wanted on a $20,000 warrant charging two counts each of felony and misdemeanor theft.

He will appear in court today.

Lee County Sheriff John Varga believes the thefts have been happening over the last 2 or 3 months, and also in Ogle County.

The initial call came in about 2 weeks ago south of Amboy, where car parts had been stolen. Other reports came shortly after, he said. Among the items taken were farm equipment, gasoline, fuel tanks, car motors, and batteries.

Varga did not know the total value of the items stolen. Deputies still are trying to determine where some of the items came from, he said.

Some later were discovered at a local scrap yard; sales records showed that Daniels brought the parts in to sell, Varga said.

More charges may be pending against Daniels and the two boys, Varga said.
