SHS January Student of the Month: Tre' Whittaker

Senior Tre' Whittaker, 18, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School's January Students of the Month. He plans to attend Northern Illinois University and major in math and accounting.
Senior Tre' Whittaker, 18, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School's January Students of the Month. He plans to attend Northern Illinois University and major in math and accounting.

Senior Tre' Whittaker, 18, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School's January Students of the Month. He is the son of Quanene Kendrick of Sterling.

Favorite class: Algebra 3 and trigonometry, because I love math.

Top teacher: Adam Bauer, English. He knows how to let us have fun while learning everything we need to know.

Extracurriculars: Basketball and track; BLIND, Giving Power to Adolescents (GPA), 20 Men Strong and National Honor Society.

After graduation: I'm going to Northern Illinois University, and I'll major in math and accounting.

Best friend: Cornell Hartz. We've gone from kindergarten all the way through high school together. He's always been there for me. We've just always been inseparable.

Favorite musical artist: Outkast.

Favorite actor: Denzel Washington.

Favorite movie: "Above the Rim."

Favorite TV show: "Boy Meets World."

Hobbies: Hanging out with friends, listening to music and sometimes writing poetry.

Favorite game or outdoor activity: Monopoly.

Favorite food: Spaghetti with meat sauce, meatballs, anything.

Favorite website: ukathletics.com because (the University of Kentucky Wildcats) is my favorite college basketball team.

Favorite trend: Wearing sweatsuits. I used to like doing that.

Biggest fear: Failure.

What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Rock music.

Haunts: Sauk Valley 8 Carmike Cinema or Buffalo Wild Wings.

I'm in the dictionary next to: "All smiles." I'm always smiling.

Secret twin: Derrick Rose.

Personal trivia: That's hard. Everybody pretty much knows everything about me.

Dream job: Choreographer. I just want to see what it's like for them to teach celebrities all the moves.

Trading places: My mom. I just want to see what her job is like every day. (His mother works for CGH Home Nursing.)

Trading spaces: Florida. I hear it's really, really nice there all the time.

Read this: I read "The Hunger Games" series by Suzanne Collins. I liked the action. It's relatable because it's people your age going through that post-apocalyptic world.

What would you do if you had $100,000? I would give $25,000 to charity, $10,000 to my church, save a little bit for my college fund and give the rest to my family.

What do you wish your high school offered? An accounting class, so I could learn a little more about it before I go to college to study it.

What's a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Hit the books, focus and keep your grades up because freshman year is what impacts you the most of your four years.
