Mumford offering Dixon first shot at tickets

Limited number for Troy, Ohio show available Thursday only

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

DIXON – “Don’t worry Dixon, Mumford & Sons and Jam Production still love you,” said a Dixon Main Street news release Tuesday.

Although Dixon was not one of three U.S. locations selected Tuesday for the British rock band’s 2013 Gentlemen of the Road Tour, the community will get first crack at buying tickets.

A limited number of tickets for the band’s closest stopover in Troy, Ohio will be available at the Dixon Main Street office, on Thursday only, and only to those who show up in person.

The city hosted the Grammy-nominated band last August and sold out all 15,000 tickets to the 2-day event within 8 hours.

The band will play Troy, Aug. 30-31, Guthrie, Okla. Sept. 6-7, and St. Augustine, Fla. Sept. 13-14.

For those interested, that’s 6 1/2-hour, 10 1/2-hour and 17 1/2-hour trips by car from Dixon, respectively, according to Google maps.

The band also will have stopovers in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Josh Albrecht, executive director of Dixon Main Street, said the gesture was a thank you to Dixon.

“That’s really cool of the band,” Albrecht said. “That’s a nod to our community, and it shows they’re still thinking about us.”

Tickets for the Troy show are $109 each, with camping passes for $40 per person. A $5 per ticket handling fee will be charged. Payment is by cash or check only, with a limit of 6 tickets per person.

The pre-sale is not limited to Dixon residents or those who went to the show last year. Anyone who shows up Thursday can buy tickets.

Troy, with a population of about 25,000, is a Main Street Community and has a historic downtown, similar to Dixon, Albrecht noted.

“The concert will be similar to Dixon with a main concert venue and additional activities throughout the downtown area throughout the weekend,” Albrecht said.

The 2-day lineup includes Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Vaccines, Half Moon Run, Those Darlins, Willy Mason and Bear’s Den.

All other tickets for the Gentlemen of the Road Tour go on sale Friday.
