Senior Connor Olson, 17, of Rock Falls, is Rock Falls High School’s January Student of the Month. He is the son of Brian and Jude Olson of Rock Falls; his brother is Collin Olson, an eighth-grader, and his sister is Kenzie Olson, a sixth-grader, both at Montmorency School. The family has a Shar Pei-bulldog mix named Shelbie.

Favorite class: Economics. It’s new and challenging – something I’ve never really had.

Top teacher: Mark Truesdell, social studies. He’s no homework, all tests. He just kind of tells it how it is, gives it to you straight.

Extracurriculars: Basketball, Athletes Committing to Excellence Club and Spanish Club.

After graduation: I find out soon about the University of Illinois. If I get in there, I’ll go there and study agriculture business. I was already accepted to Illinois State University, so I could go there and study the same thing.

Paycheck: I’ve been detasseling for years, but I’ll be field inspector for Monsanto this summer.

Best friend: Riley O’Brien. We’ve been friends since we were little. ... We’re just always together.

Favorite musical artist: Drake.

Favorite actor: Will Ferrell.

Favorite TV show: “SportsCenter.”

Hobbies: Sports. I’m competitive at anything. I like to win at everything. We have a pingpong table. We have a pool – I think I’m an Olympic swimmer.

Favorite game or outdoor activity: Basketball. I’ve been playing since I had a Little Tikes hoop.

Favorite food: Steak, medium-well, with french fries.

Favorite website: Facebook.

Biggest fear: Drowning.

Haunts: Westwood. Or J W’s 3rd Base in Rock Falls; me and some of the guys like to go there for lunch.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Tall. I’m 6 foot 5. It’s the first thing people notice.

Secret twin: My study hall teacher says I look like Macaulay Culkin. I kinda see it – the younger version, not the adult version.

Personal trivia: I’m kind of known around Rock Falls ... for being part of the Rowdies (the student cheering section at volleyball games). We go all out. We have themes. We travel even.

Dream job: Stockbroker.

Trading places: An NBA player, just to see the lifestyle – it’s more than just playing basketball.
