Eugene E. 'Red' Hargrave

SANDWICH – Eugene E. “Red” Hargrave, 84, of Sandwich, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at his home.

He was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Sublette, the son of Robert and Marion (Martin) Hargrave. He proudly served his country with the Army from 1951 to 1953. He married Nancy Stanfield on Dec. 29, 1953. They spent 58 years together until her death on Jan. 12, 2012.

He was a member of United Church of Sandwich and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8234 in Sandwich. He had retired from Commonwealth Edison after 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending his winters in Fort Myers, Fla., with Nancy during his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Terry (Ken) Digate of Plano; sons, Larry (Kathi) Hargrave of Texas, Wayne (Jackie) Hargrave of Somonauk, and Dan (Lynn) Hargrave of Hopkinton, Mass.; sister, Donna Morello of North Hollywood, Calif.; a brother, Charles of California; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; and a sister, Betty Kleinbart.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Friday at United Church of Sandwich. Interment will be at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk. Beverage Family Funeral Home in Sandwich is handling arrangements.
