DES PLAINES – Anna Marie Ambrose, 92, of Des Plaines, formerly of Dixon, Rockford, and Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Nazarethville Health Care Center in Des Plaines.

She was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Rochelle, the daughter of Paul and Kathryn (Doyle) Crabtree. She married Robert W. Ambrose on April 4, 1943, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 2003.  

Anna Marie retired after being an executive secretary for the Rockford School District.  She was active in the Rockford Catholic Women’s League and the women’s Jaycees, and helped found the “Pink Ladies” volunteers at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. She loved to play the piano, sing, dance, golf, play bridge, and watch the Chicago Cubs, and she always loved family gatherings.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan (Edward) Walsh of Burr Ridge; two sons, William R. (Merlie) Ambrose of Fort Wayne, and John P. (Marnie) Ambrose of Rockford; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Paul Crabtree.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon, followed by the funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Bernard Sehr officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
