Special Olympics teams gather at Galena games

GALENA – State athletes, coaches, and volunteers arrived for the annual winter games Jan. 29-31 at Chestnut Mountain Resort.

More than 410 Special Olympics athletes competed in divisions based on gender, age, and comparable entry scores. Medals were awarded for first through third place and ribbons for fourth through seventh.

Local results were:

Independents: Sarah Moroney of Rochelle, second place, 200-meter snowshoe race.

Kreider Services Inc. of Dixon: Jacob Hoak of Stockton, first place, alpine giant slalom and alpine super G (downhill); Tracie Barna of Dixon, third place, 100-meter and second place, 50-meter cross country skiing; Adam D. Carrington of Dixon, fifth place, 100-meter and second place, 50-meter snowshoe races; Roger Raab of Stockton, second place, 100-meter showshoe; and Mary L. Hajek of Stockton, second place, 50-meter showshoe.

Mabley Developmental Center in Dixon: John Feliciano, third place, 100-meter and first place, 50-meter snowshoe; Derrick Fitzgerald, third place, 100-meter snowshoe; Harold Gordon, first place, 100- meter and sixth place, 50-meter snowshoe; and John Riley, first place, 50-meter snowshoe. All of the athletes are from Dixon.

Gateway Services of Princeton: Brandon Endsley of Walnut, third place, 100-meter cross country skiing and second place, 50-meter cross country skiing.
