Sectional competition Saturday

STERLING – More than 20 students from three local high schools will compete in 14 events at the sectional speech tournament Saturday at Sterling High School, after advancing out of the regional speech tournament Feb. 2 at Freeport High School.

The students and how they finished are:

n Hunter Wolfe, junior, Sterling, third in dramatic interpretation

n Collin Marcum, sophomore, Rock Falls, third in extemporaneous speaking

n Clarissa Worcester, sophomore, and Hunter Wolfe, junior, Sterling, first in humorous duet acting

n Samantha Butts, sophomore, Rock Falls, third in humorous interpretation

n Zach Woessner, junior, Sterling, third in impromptu speaking

n Krista Temple, junior, Fulton, second in informative speaking

n Nicole Podkulski, sophomore, Sterling, fourth in informative speaking

n Hannah Matheney, senior, Sterling, fourth in oratorical declamation

n Abby Langer, freshman, Sterling, second in original comedy

n Kestrel Smoot, sophomore, Sterling, second in original oratory

n Samantha Adams, junior; Haley Cameron, junior; Marissa Doering, junior; Abby Gillette, junior; Sandra Gomez, junior; Leeanna Wolf, junior; Morgan Folgers, sophomore; Zion Little, sophomore; Amber Rasmussen, freshman; and Kierstyn Summers, freshman, Rock Falls, second in performance in the round

n Hannah Matheney, senior, Sterling, second in poetry reading

n Hayley Osborn, junior, Sterling, third in prose reading

n Zach Woessner, junior, Sterling, first in radio speaking

n Charlie Rozhon, senior, Rock Falls, fourth in radio speaking

n Alyssa Carlson, senior, Rock Falls, fourth in special occasion speaking

The top three finishers in each event will advance to the state tournament Feb. 15-16 in Peoria.
