DIXON – It seems that Marcus and his band are now just ghosts that we knew.

When Mumford & Sons announces its next Gentlemen of the Road Tour this afternoon, Dixon will not be among its five stops.

When the city played host in August to the internationally recognized British rock band in its first Gentlemen of the Road Tour, all 15,000 tickets sold in 8 hours. The 2-day event featured concerts in Page Park with seven other bands, and two street festivals.

In emails to fans and on ticket stubs, the band said: “See you in 2013,” leading some to believe they might return to Dixon.

But Josh Albrecht, the Dixon Main Street executive director who was instrumental in bringing the group to the area, remains in contact with Mumford & Sons and Jam Productions, and confirmed Monday that the band will not be back this summer.

Mumford will announce the five stopovers for its 2013 Gentlemen of the Road Tour on its website at 2:30 p.m. today. Three are in the U.S., one is in Canada and the other is in the United Kingdom.

Talks remain open with Mumford and Jam Productions on potential future concerts in Dixon, Albrecht said.

“They were complimentary of Dixon. Talking to them, Dixon holds a soft spot in their heart and they had a great time. I’ve made it clear the doors are open.”

Albrecht said he is looking for another chance to bring in another big act on a similar stage, ruling out one for this summer.

“I’m pretty confident that was not a one-time thing,” Albrecht said. “(Mumford & Sons) showed that any band can sell out 15,000 tickets here in less than a day. Hopefully, the opportunity comes again and the stars align for it to happen again.

“But the stars will have to align, because major bands don’t play in a city of 16,000 often. We proved we can make it happen.”

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
