Fulton High School speech team members competed Feb. 2 in Freeport for the Illinois High School Association Speech Team Regional. FREEPORT – The Fulton High School speech team competed in the Illinois High School Association Speech Team Regional Feb. 2 in Freeport.

The team advanced four of nine entries into the final rounds of competition. Allison Winkel and David Stager, sixth place, dramatic duet acting; Kyle Wiebenga, sixth place, impromptu speaking; Kaylie Huizenga, sixth place oratorical declamation; and Krista Temple, second place informative speaking, all represented FHS in the final rounds.

Temple received second place overall at the regional event and advanced to sectional competition which is today at Sterling High School.

Other local teams competing and their results are:

Byron High School: Chad Trenholm and Sean Sweet, fourth place, humorous duet acting; Chris Sible, first place, original comedy, and third place, informative speaking; team, third place, performance in the round; Ben Love, fourth place, poetry reading; Rachel Hopkins, fourth place, prose reading; Shelby Krall, second place, radio speaking; and Sean Sweet, third place, special occasion speaking.

Rock Falls High School: Samantha Butts, third place, humorous interpretation; Collin Marcum, third place, extemporaneous speaking; team, second place, performance in the round; Charlie Rozhon, fourth place, radio speaking; and Alyssa Carlson, fourth place, special occasion speaking.

Sterling High School: Nicole Podkulski, fourth place, informative speaking; Zach Woessner, third place, impromptu speaking, and first place, radio speaking; Clarissa Worcester and Hunter Wolfe, first place, humorous duet acting; Hunter Wolfe, third, dramatic interpretation.

Abby Langner, second place, original comedy; Kestrel Smoot, second place, original oratory; Hannah Matheney, second place, poetry reading, and fourth place, oratorical declamation; and Hayley Osborn, third place, prose reading.
