DIXON – Harold Raymond Switzer, 84, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Washington. He retired from Dixon Public Schools as a custodian.

Harold was born Oct. 13, 1928, in Dixon, the son of Cora and Charles Harold Switzer. He married Mary Ann Wilhelm on March 16, 1954. She preceded him in death in 1982. He married Glenna Daraska in 1988.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Penny (Roger) Decker of Washington and Carmen of La Crosse, Wis.; his stepdaughter, Camery (Mark) Peterson of Mount Morris; his stepson, Christopher (Anita) Daraska of Dixon; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., Tuesday at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dixon, with the Rev. Lynn Bond, pastor, and the Rev. Janet Wittenmyer, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon, co-officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.

A memorial has been established to First Christian Disciples of Christ.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
