Guns are not the only threats to human life
I'm writing in regard to the letter Donald Edwards of Dixon wrote ["Time to quit National Rifle Association"], which appeared on Jan. 31. Mr. Edwards states that he terminated his membership in the NRA because they wanted no change in gun regulations. This is his choice and his right.
I do not think it is necessary for the average gun owner to have an assault weapon. Those weapons are not for hunting; they were made for one purpose: for our military to kill humans in war. I feel that only the military and law enforcement should have access to that type of weapon.
You say a half dozen people a day are killed in America by guns, and 500 each year in Chicago. Chicago has strict gun laws and regulations; does it look to you like it's working?
