As strike looms, support your Dixon teachers

I’ve been a teacher at one of your local public schools since August 2007, and I’ve seen almost 6 years of the work done by my colleagues in the Dixon Public School system. I’m consistently impressed with the competence and care the teachers and support staff bring to their classrooms and to your children every day.

In the halls of our schools, your children look to my colleagues for guidance and support. From pre-kindergarten tots to graduating seniors, teachers and staff are with your children daily, giving instruction, caring and helping, looking out for this community’s greatest treasures. My colleagues don’t let down, and they don’t turn off in working hard to bring a good, 21st-century education to your children.

These same teachers, my colleagues, and I are about to take a stand against a difficult employment situation by going on strike. We’ve bargained in good faith and cannot come to terms with those opposed to our contract requests. We ask this community to consider our requests and needs as human beings with families of our own.

Good or bad? Depends on who you ask

Sometimes readers ask for more good news in the paper. They say we in the media only cover the bad. But one person's positive is another's negative.

My kind of game

I would have gladly paid to take in the game I covered Saturday morning in Morrison.
