DIXON – Jean E. Wiltfang, 84, of Dixon, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Coventry Living Center in Sterling.

Jean was born Oct. 13, 1928, in Woosung, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Prebe) Smith. She married Leonard Wiltfang on June 10, 1950, in Oregon. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1988. She was employed by Admiral and Parker Hannifin in Dixon.

Survivors include one daughter, Liz Rosenow of Sterling; one sister, Shirley Dedlich of Spring Valley; one brother, Ronald “Toad” Smith of Dixon; two grandsons, Brett Rosenow of Bloomington and Jacob Stitzel of Dixon; one son-in-law, Tom Schwamberger of Dixon; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Schwamberger; four sisters, Lorraine, Esther, Betty, and Cleo Doris; and five brothers, Bud, Robert, Lyle, Kenneth, and Junior.

Graveside service will be at a later date. McDonald Funeral Homes are handling arrangements.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
