Gardening tips program offered

MALTA – The Gardeners Pathway symposium of workshops will be Feb. 23 at Kishwaukee College Conference Center, 21193 Malta Road. The series.presented by University of Illinois Extension DeKalb County Master Gardeners and Kishwaukee College, is for gardeners of all levels.

The day will start with a continental breakfast and exhibit hall at 7:30 a.m., followed by "Make Mine Green," by organic gardener Rich Tobiasz.

Participants will then select from 17 workshops ranging from floral arranging to a tour of the Kishwaukee College greenhouse. Other topics include tropical plants for Midwest gardens, new for 2013, the language of flowers, building a garden obelisk, preparing a healing garden, top 10 succulent projects, and identifying common lawn and garden weeds.

The cost is $50 and includes a continental breakfast and garden lunch, welcome bag courtesy of Ball Seed Co., and select handouts.

In addition to the workshops, vendors will be in the exhibit hall. The will be door prizes, a Master Gardener silent auction, and a Master Gardener question and answer desk.

Sponsors of the event include Stonecrete, Redbud Creek Farm, Wiltse’s, Glass Garden Art, Heinz Brothers, Kyler Photography, Wasco Nursery, and Blumen Gardens.

Workshops have limited seating space, participants should select a first and second choice of workshops for each session.
