Wayne Lackey

POLO – Wayne Lackey, 87, of Polo, was taken by the angels Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013. God gently reached down and took him peacefully in his sleep at Polo Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

He was born July 25, 1925, in Low Gap, Ark., the son of Joe Burrell and Jennie Viola (Scroggins) Lackey. He was the fourth child in a family of eight children. Wayne was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany from 1952 to 1954. He married NelVada Kilgore on Oct. 26, 1955, in Harrison, Ark. They moved to Illinois so he could work in the timber and cut STA bolts. He later was employed by Wood Bros. in maintenance from 1956 until he retired in 1991. Wayne enjoyed all kinds of work. He was good with his hands and built many things during his lifetime. He left us many things that he so caringly crafted for us with love. He was a gardener, and always was there to help his family whenever he could. He always said he could fix anything we would bring to him, except a broken heart, which coincidentally is finally what got just too tired to stay here any longer.

He is survived by his son, Douglas (Lisa) Lackey, and daughter, Rita (Toby) Remrey, both of Oregon; grandchildren, Jedediah Remrey, Jarod Remrey and Riley (Roger) Comins, all of Oregon, and Kayla (Justin) Hibbetts of Mount Morris; two very special great-grandchildren, Spencer and Chelsea Hibbetts; and two brothers, Preston Lackey and Sanford Lackey, both of Low Gap.

Good or bad? Depends on who you ask

Sometimes readers ask for more good news in the paper. They say we in the media only cover the bad. But one person's positive is another's negative.

My kind of game

I would have gladly paid to take in the game I covered Saturday morning in Morrison.
