Probe: Ill. prison hire lacked required experience

SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Illinois officials aren't naming a prison administrator hired in 2011 who was found unqualified for the position in a report released Wednesday.

The employee's name and the prison where he works were redacted in the Executive Ethics Commission report.

But it indicated he may have connections. His previous experience includes managing an office for "his father's campaign" but didn't name the father either.

The man was hired for a prison administrator's job even though he lacked required experience and education in criminal justice and prison administration.

The commission recommended Gov. Pat Quinn's office review the employee's status. A lawyer for the governor argued that the man does have the required credentials.

State law directs the commission not to publish information it believes should stay secret.
