Arthur H. Nelson

STILLMAN VALLEY – Arthur H. Nelson, 63, of Stillman Valley, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Jan. 5, 1950, in Elgin, the son of Arthur H. Sr. and Joan (Button) Nelson. He married Teresa (Babich) Taylor on Oct. 6, 2001, in Byron; she also died in the accident. Arthur retired 2 years ago from being an operating engineer with Local 150.  He was an aviation enthusiast and attended the Experimental Aircraft Association Air Show in Oshkosh, Wis., several times. He was mechanically inclined and completely restored an old Jeep. He loved to travel, and always was on the go.

He is survived by his son, Matthew Nelson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; stepsons, Timothy Taylor and Ty (Ellen) Taylor, both of Oregon, Chris Bowen of Madison Heights, Mich., T.J. (Amy) Taylor of Waterman, and Troy Taylor of Hillside; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Nelson (Michael) Bartlett of Elgin and Ginny Nelson Ireland of St. Charles; and several nieces and nephews.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
