AMBOY – An Amboy man charged in connection with a number of Dixon vehicle burglaries now also is accused of breaking into homes in Amboy and Mendota with an accomplice.

Travis S. Broderick, 18, told officers he burglarized the homes Friday to get money to buy K2, a synthetic form of marijuana, Amboy police said in a news release.

Monday, they issued warrants for Broderick and Josephine Emmons, 18, of Big Rock, for residential burglary and theft worth more than $500.

They also are charged with residential burglary in the Mendota break-in. Broderick was in the LaSalle County Jail on Tuesday, while Emmons is being treated for an undisclosed medical condition at an Aurora Hospital, the release said.

Amboy Police received a report Friday of a burglary at a home in the 300 block of South Jefferson Avenue in Amboy. Broderick and Emmons quickly were developed as suspects.

When questioned, Broderick told police he entered the house through a basement window and unlocked the door for Emmons. They took money and jewelry, some of which he said he sold at a Cash4Gold store in Mendota, the release said.

During the investigation, police also tied the pair to the Mendota burglary.

At the time it was committed, Broderick was out on bond in Lee County, where he is charged with four counts of burglary and one count of misdemeanor resisting a peace officer.

Police say Broderick and several other Amboy people broke into about 100 cars earlier this month.

Broderick has a pretrial conference Thursday in that case.

Good or bad? Depends on who you ask

Sometimes readers ask for more good news in the paper. They say we in the media only cover the bad. But one person's positive is another's negative.
