‘Not an ordinary band concert’
Winter show to be split into ensemble performances, set for Feb. 17
DIXON – The Sauk Valley Community College Music Department’s Concert Band will present “Not An Ordinary Band Concert” at 2 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Historic Dixon Theatre, 114 S. Galena Ave.
The format will be a break from convention for the concert band: Instead of marches, overtures, fanfares, and symphonies, the band will perform in ensembles, ranging in size from two to 15 players.
Patrons will hear flute, clarinet, saxophone, brass, and percussion choirs of like instruments paired with smaller quartets, quintets and duets.
Selections will encompass all of music history, from serious classical to pop and jazz.
Selections in the chamber music concert will include Pachelbel’s “Canon” for flute choir; Gabrieli’s “Canzona Noni Toni” for brass choir; Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro Overture” for clarinet choir; Fillmore’s “Lassus Saxes” for saxophone choir; and Joplin’s “The Entertainer” for percussion choir.
Admission is free; donations will be accepted for renovation and maintenance of the nonprofit theater.
