MORRISON – Joanne “Josie” Snodgrass-Johnson, 84, of Morrison, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison.

She was born Jan. 20, 1929, in Evansville, Ind., the daughter of George M. and Ruth F. (Smalley) Baird. Josie was educated at Culver Grade School in Evansville, and was a graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville. She attended Evansville College. 

She married Robert F. Snodgrass on May 8, 1948, in Evansville. She later married Harry Johnson on Feb. 14, 1989, in Clinton, Iowa. Josie was employed by General Electric in Morrison, and later the Whiteside News-Sentinel in Morrison.

Josie was a member of St. Anne Episcopal Church in Morrison, and the church’s Altar Guild. She was a member of the Morrison Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Merchants Association, and the Morrison Music Theater Association. Josie enjoyed sewing and loved to sing and dance  She collected antique buttons and performed many presentations related to the buttons. She also was a member of the Prophetstown Lions Club and Prophetstown Toys for Tots. She assisted with the direction and promotion of the Prophetstown Fourth of July Celebration. She never met anyone she didn’t love unconditionally. She always will be remembered for her ever-present smile.

Survivors include her husband, Harry; three daughters, Beth (Lonnie) Rice and Nina (Charles) Rumfelt, both of Morrison, and Susan (James) Miller of Prophetstown; one son, Robert (JoAnn) Snodgrass of Morrison; one stepdaughter, Erica Hostetler of Ithaca, N.Y.; one stepson, Eric (Mimi) Johnson of Bettendorf, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Maj. Steven Rice, Larry (Kristy) Rice, Sarah (Mitch) Andreina, Lisa (Mike) Lewis, Sheri (Mike) Nichols, Amanda (Drew) Blean, Faith Rumfelt, Amanda (Brent) Swift, Virginia Rumfelt, Nina (Justin) Vogel, Michael Rumfelt, Jim (Tara) Miller, and Logan Miller; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Virginia (Joe) Phillips of Brownsburg, Ind.; and one brother, Dr. Keith (Joyce) Baird of Crawfordsville, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Patricia in infancy.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Episcopal Church in Morrison, with the Rev. Gary Lawler, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at St. Anne Memory Garden in Morrison.
